Flippa Ball - Information

The game:

Flippa Ball is a modified version of Water Polo aimed exclusively at Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students.  There are two teams, each of which must have a minimum of six players. Each team must have 5 field players and 1 goalie in the pool at one time.  Each team can have up to 5 substitutes (recommended 3 substitutes) that can rotate at any time.  Players are permitted to walk along the bottom if they do not have the ball. If in possession of the ball the player must swim or pass. Players must catch and pass with only one hand. The game consists of two halves of 10 minutes duration each.

NB: Year 5&6 students need to be strong swimmers to play Flippa Ball.

 

Location:

Memorial Pool – Tauranga

 

Season dates:

Tuesday 22nd October 2024 TBC (if Memorial is not open by this date we will be starting the comp on Tuesday 29th October) for 6 weeks.

 

Game times: 

Years 3 & 4 – Learners’ pool games are played sometime between 3.30pm – 7.30pm

Years 5 & 6 – Big pool games are played sometime between 4.00pm – 8.30pm

Generally, a team will play one game each Tuesday.

The draw will be e-mailed to the managers to distribute to their team before the game; and will also be available on the Tauranga Water Polo Website: https://www.sporty.co.nz/taurangawaterpolo/Home

 

Cost:

Term 4 Fees 2024 - $75 per person

Payment is required at the end of the registration process. You must pay when prompted after completing the registration form; or your registration will not reach us.

 

Practice:

Practise will take place in the school pool either before or after school, or at lunchtime. Days and times will be confirmed by your coach/manager when the teams have been put together. 

 

Uniform:

A suitable swimming costume is required. A cap & all other gear required will be provided at the pool.

EACH TEAM WILL REQUIRE TWO PARENTS TO VOLUNTEER. ONE TO BE COACH, AND ONE TO BE MANAGER.

Coaches hold the team practises and are present to coach during games. There are resources available to help with this role and it can be shared across parents if required. 

Managers are responsible for team logistics & organisation e.g. correspondence of practise and game times to all members of the team; key point of contact for PPS Sports & Events Co-ordinator.

Without parents volunteering for these roles, we are unable to submit teams.
